AMSOIL Testimonial Fire Department

Below you will find a recent AMSOIL Testimonial from a fellow AMSOIL dealer and  friend Craig Hamrick.

Using AMSOIL products have saved countless dollars in many commercial / Industrial applications including this fire department.

Fire Department Counts on AMSOIL for Performance, Savings

Direct Jobber Craig Hamrick of Macomb, Ill. has been a firefighter in charge of fleet maintenance for 23 years.

“My wife and I have been Dealers since 2006 and became Dealers after seeing the impressive results AMSOIL demonstrated in the fire department fleet,” Hamrick said.

The fire department is a commercial account of Dealer Glenn Mike Arnold, Hamrick’s sponsor. “We have used AMSOIL lubricants since 2003 in the fleet,” Hamrick said. The department has 11 vehicles and numerous small engines and generators, all running with AMSOIL products. “Glenn’s knowledge of AMSOIL products has helped us select the right products for our needs. Every vehicle in our fleet has AMSOIL installed from front to back.”

 AMSOIL Powers Generator

The Macomb Fire Department generator at the main station is an Onan 150kw unit that is powered by a Cummins QSB 6.7 liter diesel. It also has AMSOIL filters and lubricants installed. It has a BMK23 with an EaO26 full-flow filter and an EaBP110 by-pass filter. For ease of oil sampling, there is a petcock on one of the ports on the filter housing.

The engine is filled with AMSOIL 5W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil (DEO). “The reason for choosing DEO over AMSOIL 15W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil (DME) is the slightly better flow characteristics of the DEO for cold weather start up,” Hamrick said. “While this unit has a block heater to keep the coolant warm, the oil can still be fairly cold. This generator must go from stopped to running with full electrical load in less than one minute. The cold flow characteristics of the AMSOIL diesel oil provide maximum protection and peace of mind for me and the department.”

The fuel is also treated with AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate Plus Cold Flow Improver (DFC) at each fill-up.

“The savings are substantial,” Hamrick said. “We only change oil based on oil analysis now, where before we changed every three months or 250 hours. Fleet uptime is one of the most important benefits for us. Our equipment must respond and perform at maximum capability every time. The generator is just as important.”

 Oil Analysis Proves AMSOIL Benefits

Hamrick said he was a skeptic of extended-drain intervals when he first was approached about AMSOIL synthetics. However, he soon learned the saving potential of AMSOIL synthetic lubricants. The department saves money through the reduction of waste oil generated, as well as on equipment repairs and services, both in time and labor.

The department regularly sends oil samples to Oil Analyzers as part of its maintenance program.

“The proof is in all of the oil analysis reports,” he said. “We can see by the results.”

AMSOIL lubricants are especially well-suited to emergency services where every second counts.

“You never know when you’re going to get that call, and there isn’t a lot of extra equipment available,” Hamrick said. “We need our equipment to be ready and able to perform.”

Even during the winter months, the generator has “instant oil pressure” when it’s fired up, he said. “If you walk into our station all you will see in our maintenance room is AMSOIL products.”

Growing His Own AMSOIL Business

Hamrick specializes in commercial accounts because his background is in heavy-duty diesel equipment. “My business isn’t growing as fast as I would like, but it’s stable,” he said. “We get new customers every week.”

Name recognition of AMSOIL has improved in the five years since he became a Dealer. “AMSOIL is easier to sell now than even when I started as a Dealer,” Hamrick said. He credited AMSOIL INC. for its work garnering AMSOIL brand recognition in numerous markets.

His experience with the products also helps him with other fleet managers as he tells them his first-hand experience of AMSOIL cost savings, equipment performance and longevity.

“It’s all about saving money and extending the life of the equipment,” Hamrick said.

Don’t Neglect your Hydraulics

Many people have experienced the superior quality of AMSOIL synthetic lubricants by using motor oil in the cars, trucks motorcycles or diesel equipment. But did you know that AMSOIL manufactures the highest quality synthetic hydraulic oils on the market today.

AMSOIL Hydraulic Oils offer these benefits:

  • Excellent cold-temperature properties
  • Anti-wear protection
  • Recommended for gear, van and piston hydraulic pumps
  • Contain rust, oxidation and foam inhibitors
  • Designed for a wide temperature range
  • Hydrolytically stable and readily separate from water
  • Improves mobile equipment efficiency (mehf)

Below is an article that recent article that appeared in the January 2012 AMSOIL magazine.

Certain hydraulic systems, including those installed in log splitters, skid steers and small tractors, are often operated seasonally or intermittently. Then the equipment is stored for extended periods. Although checking and changing hydraulic oil is sometimes important to ensure optimum protection and performance and maximum equipment life.

AMSOIL synthetic hydraulic oils can provide significant savings over conventional hydraulic oils.

 Reduced Heat

The synthetic construction of AMSOIL synthetic hydraulic oils can reduce heat in hydraulic systems, leading to better viscosity retention; less varnish build-up, oxidation and component wear (including hoses); longer seal life; and better overall system performance.

Cold-Weather Performance

Mobile hydraulic equipment often sits in the elements while on a job site, causing many conventional hydraulic oils to thicken in the cold and lead to equipment damage such as excessive pump wear due to cavitation, blown hoses, broken shafts and extended warm-up times that waste fuel. AMSOIL synthetic hydraulic oils are formulated for better cold-temperature characteristics than petroleum oils, helping reduce or eliminate many of these issues.

All Season Functionality

To eliminate some of the problems associated with temperature changes, many mobile hydraulic equipment owners switch oil viscosities with the seasons. AMSOIL synthetic hydraulic oils are high-viscosity-index formulations that can eliminate the need for seasonal changes. It’s very possible to run an ISO 32 or ISO 46 oil successfully year-round in all but the most extreme cold conditions.

Hose Life Preservation

Cold and heat wreak havoc on hydraulic system hoses and seals. Cold, thick fluid can cause pressure spikes and extremely hot fluid breaks down hoses and seals over time, leading to leaks and wasted hydraulic fluid. The superior cooling and flow properties of AMSOIL synthetic hydraulic oils help preserve hose integrity.

AMSOIL Synthetic Anti-Wear Hydraulic Oils

AMSOIL Synthetic Anti-Wear Hydraulic Oils effectively inhibit oxidation to help prevent acid formation and viscosity increase, resist carbon and varnish deposits and inhibit rust and foam (providing smooth hydraulic operation). They contain an effective zinc-based anti-wear/antioxidant additive that controls wear in high-speed, high-pressure vane and gear pumps while meeting the lubrication requirements of axial piston pumps with bronze-on-steel metallurgy.

AMSOIL Biodegradable Hydraulic Oil

AMSOIL Biodegradable Hydraulic Oil (BHO) is a premium-performance hydraulic oil that exhibits high biodegradability and low aquatic toxicity, along with superior oxidative stability, excellent low-temperature performance and outstanding results in laboratory and extended-duration pump testing. It contains antioxidants that prolong oil life and foam inhibitors that help promote problem-free operation.

AMSOIL hydraulic oils can be purchased for a variety of equipment. Some applications include machine tools and presses, mobile construction equipment, farming equipment, logging trucks, boom trucks and plastic injection molding machines. The appropriate viscosity grades of AW Oils are also suitable for use in pneumatic tools and spindles.

AMSOIL hydraulic oils qualify as MEHF or Maximum Efficiency Hydraulic Fluid. MEHF can save time and money by allowing the equipment to be used at it’s highest efficiency. Think about it, on a cold day a front end loader might take 3-5 times as long to cycle through pickup and dumb. With an MEHF like AMSOIL, this time savings results in less fuel used and higher production.
